If you’ve been experiencing a ringing in the ear then it’s important you get a proper diagnosis before you start to treat it. This is because this is a complex condition, with many possible causes, that needs to be understood before the right treatment can be selected.
Underlying Conditions
Ringing in the ear can be a result of an underlying condition such as high blood pressure (hypertension), ear wax build up or an ear infection. These are generally easier to treat and the most obvious causes of tinnitus. If the doctor doesn’t notice one of these then they will look for further underlying reasons.

Tinnitus (or ringing in the ear), commonly thought of as a hearing problem, is actually a nervous system disorder that has many causes. The common symptom that groups the various causes into one ailment is a persistent perception of a ringing sound. Mild cases manifest as background noise and are mostly just annoying and more severe cases can be loud enough to interfere with hearing normal sounds.
